Wolves have performed better than expected this season, so it is important to maintain the core of the players and strengthen the depth of the squad.
However, compliance with Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) may require the sale of players to foster growth and development. All of this needs to be taken into account when considering who Wolves need to keep and who could leave.
First, Wolves absolutely have to keep Rayan Eyt-Nouri around. He's a fast, creative player and we've missed him tremendously in his absence. Although he was initially left out of the team by coach Julen Lopetegui, he improved under manager Gary O'Neill. His contract runs until 2026, with an extension option, and he should stay on in the summer.
Mateus Cunha must stay there. He has a great track record and is currently the top scorer. Cunha has been playing as number 9 a lot lately, but he is better at number 10. He's really good at getting the ball down the field. I think he will add a lot to the dressing room as well and his leadership qualities will be greatly missed.
Midfield is also a strength, and I don't want to see him leave in that area. Wolves are set to secure the services of Tommy Doyle for a whopping £4.3 million in the summer, but securing Joao Gomez is just as important. João brings energy, dedication and tenacity to the midfield and his impressive performance in Brazil's match against England at Wembley has drawn envy. João is also an important player that we want to keep at the club.
This may come as a surprise, but of the players likely to be moved away, I would sell Pedro Neto. Don't get me wrong, Neto is a great player, but his fitness is a concern for me and even if he only plays half the season, he's a luxury for Wolves. Retaining the majority of players is key, and selling just one player like Neto could raise enough money to revitalize the team and prepare for next season. I think this could be the least disruptive option for Wolves in the summer.
The past few transfer windows have been exceptionally quiet for Wolves, who have worked hard to meet PSR regulations, but this summer has seen investment in the team and they look forward to an even better season in 2024-25. I hope you have a good time.
