Xbox president Sarah Bond acknowledged that backwards compatibility with previous generation Xbox games remains a priority for the company's hardware.
In an email obtained by Windows Central, Sarah Bond said: “We've assembled a new team dedicated to game preservation, and this is important for everyone at Xbox and for the industry itself.”
“We remain committed to building on our strong history of providing backward compatibility for our players to deliver a great library of Xbox games for future generations of players to enjoy.”
Xbox doesn't want the game to become Stardust
Sarah Bond also reiterated the company's plans to deliver a remarkable technological leap into the next generation of Xbox hardware. This was something she first declared on her official Xbox podcast, which aired in February of this year. “We are moving full speed ahead with the development of our next-generation hardware and are focused on delivering the biggest technological leaps ever seen in this generation,” Bond said in a statement. This is reiterated in the email communication.
Microsoft's commitment to backwards compatibility has always been great, and with Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, it might be better than ever. You can play the entire Xbox One library on either current-gen console, as well as a significant number of Xbox 360 and original Xbox games. Even better, physical versions of these legacy titles will work on Xbox Series X.
This is great in itself, but for some games, Microsoft has decided to take it a step further with patches that improve resolution and performance. Currently, only Xbox Series consoles can play Red Dead Redemption at 60 fps without any issues, for example.
Other games that benefited from these performance patches include Dark Souls 3, Fallout New Vegas, and the Dragon Age trilogy. If you're interested, we have a complete list of Xbox FPS Boost games that look and play better than ever thanks to this enhanced backward compatibility support.
