Xbox president Sarah Bond has created a new team focused on game preservation and backward compatibility on future hardware.
This is according to an internal memo shared by Windows Central, in which Bond also reaffirmed Microsoft's commitment to future video game hardware.
According to the publication, Microsoft has created a team to “future-proof the current Xbox game library for future hardware paradigm shifts.”
Bond writes: “We've assembled a new team dedicated to game preservation, which is important to everyone at Xbox and the industry itself.
“We remain committed to building on our strong history of providing backwards compatibility for our players to deliver a great library of Xbox games for future generations of players to enjoy.”
Regarding future hardware plans, the executive added: Our collective accomplishments during this period are significant. I'm sure everyone is very proud of what we've accomplished and excited about the opportunities ahead.
“We are moving full speed ahead with the development of our next-generation hardware and are focused on delivering the biggest technological leap in history with this generation.”
Legal documents leaked last September reveal key elements of Microsoft's gaming strategy over the next few years, including plans to launch a redesigned “beautiful, all-digital” Xbox Series X console, codenamed “Brooklyn.” may have been exposed.
Plans may have changed, but documents indicate the console was targeted for a November 2024 launch and a $499 price tag.
