MORGANTOWN, WV — The West Virginia University baseball team heads to the state capital on Tuesday to take on in-state rival Marshall.The first pitch from Charleston's Gohmert Ballpark is scheduled for 6 p.m.

As of Monday afternoon, neither team had announced their starting pitchers for the game. West Virginia will be the home team in this neutral-site contest, the first of three games between the Mountain States this season.
The Mountaineers are coming off a series victory over BYU in the first Big 12 series of the year at Kendrick Family Ballpark. WVU won the first game 10-4, the Cougars won the second game 4-1, and he won the final game 2-0.
Sophomore Logan Sauve leads the team with a .317 batting average, and junior Grant Hussey has a team-high four home runs. Sophomore Benjamin Lumsden led WVU with 13 RBIs and also hit three home runs.
On the mound, Hambleton-Oliver has 16 strikeouts and a 1.88 ERA out of the bullpen. Sophomore Gavin Van Kempen also contributed as a mainstay in relief, pitching 10.1 innings with 15 strikeouts.
Led by head coach Greg Beals in his second season, Marshall went 6-9 in 2024 and was selected No. 12.th in the preseason Sunbelt poll. The Thundering Herd are coming off a 2-1 series win over Southeast Missouri State over the weekend.
Karin Smith leads the team with a batting average of .356, and Owen Ayers has a team-high five home runs. Bryce Blevins. Griffin Miller and Nicholas Weirich all have ERAs of 2 or less outside of the bullpen.
