WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Wichita State University partnered with a travel gaming company to host the Venture Valley College Cup, which teaches college students how to become entrepreneurs.
Venture Valley is a game where players start a business, set wages and product prices, and market it.
“We want our students to step into the entrepreneurial world a little bit. We want them to experience the different aspects of building a business,” says Venture Valley. said John Chen, marketing and events manager at the Singleton Foundation. “We want to inspire entrepreneurs. We want to show them that starting a business doesn't have to be that scary. It's still possible and we want to We want them to know what it means.”
The Venture Valley Collegiate Cup is a tournament series that travels around the country, giving students and campuses the opportunity to play games, gain entrepreneurship, and win prizes. This contest has been held for the past two years.
“This is almost a multiplayer competition, so each player competes against other players in a lobby. When you start the game, there is a specific matched goal that players race toward,” Chen said. Told. “So there are different goals that these players are working towards, and those are the kind of metrics by which they are evaluated.”
Chen said the game helps students stay in their comfort zone while learning.
“We feel there are many ways to learn, and one way is through games. We want to meet students where they feel most comfortable in front of a screen. I want to have it,” he said.
The most successful business founders go home with $2,000.
“Hopefully, it will inspire them to become entrepreneurs someday or maybe even start a business. I hope the prize money can accelerate their careers,” Chen said.
