March 29 (UPI) — The White House Office of Management and Budget has issued a set of guidelines to reduce the risks associated with government use of AI.

The guidelines would allow travelers to opt out of TSA facial recognition without delay and require human oversight of AI-powered diagnostic tools used in the federal health system.

The guidelines also require federal agencies to publish an annual inventory of their use of AI, provide metrics on sensitive and non-public AI use cases, and provide exceptions to restrictions imposed by OMB to the public. It also requires them to inform the public about their AI models and to publish information about their AI models, including their code and data. .
Additionally, federal agencies will be required to appoint a chief AI officer and establish an AI governance board to govern the use of AI.
