SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — It may come as no surprise that one of the San Diego area beaches was featured in a popular travel magazine as the best beach in the United States.
Earlier this month, Travel + Leisure released a list highlighting the 25 best beaches across the country. The publication used criteria such as sand quality, wave level, public transport, accessible parking, secluded level, and available activities.
Several California beaches made the list, including beaches outside America's Finest City. Can you guess which sandy beach was praised?
Travel + Leisure considers Coronado Beach to be one of the best beaches in the United States. “With 2.75 miles of golden sand glistening with bits of the mineral mica, Coronado Beach is just a family-friendly bonus. Swimmers, surfers, and sunbathers flock to the shores of Coronado Island to watch the beautiful sunsets. I will stay there until the evening.”
The magazine also noted that the warm, sunny climate that characterizes the San Diego area makes a day at the beach the perfect pastime.
“While you're here, visit the prestigious Hotel del Coronado and grab a bite or a drink alfresco. Another popular spot is the dog-friendly area called North Beach, which borders Coronado Beach,” Travel and Leisure says. It pointed out.
Other Golden State beaches that made the Best of the Best list include:
— Pope Beach, Lake Tahoe
— Santa Monica, Santa Monica Beach
— Carmel-by-the-Sea, Carmel Beach
If you don't have a reason to head to the ocean, this shout-out from Travel + Leisure is a great excuse to hit the sands of Coronado Beach.
