MUSKEGON, MI – The spring sports season is in full swing, with a variety of highlight reel performances from athletes from baseball and softball to track and lacrosse.
Now, with the MLive Muskegon Athlete of the Week award, it's time to highlight some of the top performances from the past week's spring sports activities.
More than 30 student-athletes are summarizing their notable accomplishments this week, but MLive and Muskegon Chronicle readers will decide who gets the highest pay in the first annual “Athlete of the Week” poll. It depends.
Readers have until noon Friday to vote for the most deserving Muskegon-area athlete in this week's poll, and the winner will be announced that morning.

The Eagles baseball standout had three hits, four runs scored and one RBI in Tuesday's doubleheader sweep against Fremont.

Pierce Blazic, Central Mason County
The Spartans baseball standout had 13 strikeouts from the mound and allowed just two hits through seven innings in Tuesday's 6-0 win over Hesperia. He added three hits and three RBIs.

Ezra Carefel, Mona Shores
The Sailors men's lacrosse standout scored a hat trick and added an assist in his team's 12-7 win over Spring Lake on Thursday.

Mia Clemens, Fremont
The Packers women's soccer standout had a hat trick and three assists in her team's 8-0 win over Shelby on Wednesday. She also added two goals and two assists in the team's 5-0 win over Orchard View on Monday.

Avi Cook, Orchard View
The Cardinals softball standout had three hits, including a home run, a triple and a single, in Thursday's doubleheader sweep against Muskegon in a 23-8 win over the Big Reds in the opener, nearly ending the cycle. I almost went out. Cook added three hits, including a triple, in Tuesday's doubleheader sweep against Ludington.

The Lakers baseball standout had four hits and four RBIs in Saturday's game against Traverse City West.

The Tigers softball standout had a combined six hits, six RBIs and five runs scored in a doubleheader sweep against Howard City-Tri-County, and had five hits and four runs scored in a doubleheader against White Cloud. Added points.

Rhys Herremans (Ravenna)
The Bulldogs softball standout hit a double against Ludington on Friday and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate during the team's 10-0 win over North Muskegon on Tuesday. He added four more hits.

The Pirates' female track and field athlete took top honors in the high jump at the Kent City Elite Invitational, clearing 5 feet, 5.25 inches.

The Wildcats baseball standout stepped up to the plate and went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored in the team's 17-5 win over Mason County Central on Thursday.

Kaylin Joza (Oak Ridge)
The Eagles softball standout stepped up to the plate in Tuesday's doubleheader sweep against Fremont and went 5-for-7 with two home runs, four RBIs and three runs scored. She also went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run when she stepped up to bat in Thursday's opener of a doubleheader against Reese Puffer, finishing the twin bill with two hits, including a three-run homer. She hit 4 in the nightcap.

Sailors men's golf standouts earned individual medalist honors with a sophomore player totaling 36 nine holes at the OK Green Conference Jamboree held at Muskegon Country Club on Wednesday did.

The Trojan baseball standout struck out 11 batters and allowed six hits, two runs, and one walk in his team's win over Traverse City Central on Friday.

The Orioles track and field standout freshman ran a personal best of 11:16.22 at the Reed City Coyote Invite, earning top honors in the 3,200-meter run and finishing first overall in the 3,200-meter dash. It became the anchor leg for the relay team. The time was 9 minutes 57.88 seconds.

The Sailors' softball standout went 4-for-5 from the bat with three triples and a double in Tuesday's doubleheader sweep against Holland.

Laney McDaniel, Reese Puffer
The Rockets softball standout struck out 13 batters, had five hits from the plate, and walked during the team's 6-5 win over Oak Ridge in the opening game of a nonconference doubleheader. He finished the twin bill with 15 strikeouts.

Caleb McKay, Western Michigan Christian
The Warriors baseball standout had an on-field home run, a triple, four RBIs, two RBIs and more in a 9-8 win over Zion Christian at Byron Center in the opening game of a doubleheader on Monday. He added a triple and three RBIs. He RBIs in the nightcap.

The Vikings baseball standout had two hits, two doubles and three RBIs and scored two runs in the team's 9-3 win over Spring Lake on Saturday.

The Warriors' male track and field athlete improved his personal best time in the 800 meters at the Kent City Games with a time of 2:00.67, and the best time in the 1,600 meters with a personal best time of 4:30.92 to take home the top prize. Obtained. Elite invitation.

Seth Nolder, Grand Haven
The Buccaneers boys track and field standout broke his own school record in the 1,600-meter run at the Barnyard Invitational in Romeo on Friday with a time of 4:04.81. This is the third fastest time in MHSAA history and still stands as a record. This is the second fastest time in the country for a high school athlete.

The Warriors women's soccer standout scored four goals in her team's 8-2 victory over Zion Christian at Byron Center.

The Buccaneers, the top players in women's tennis, defeated Ludington 6-3, 6-0 in the championship match at the Ludington Invitational on Saturday, earning No. 1 singles honors.

The Sailors, baseball standout, had 13 strikeouts and allowed two earned runs on three hits in his team's narrow 3-2 win over the Netherlands on Tuesday.

Trent Reichert, Reese Puffer
The Rockets baseball standout pitched 6.2 innings, struck out eight batters and allowed just two earned runs in a 13-6 win over Coopersville on Monday. He also contributed to his own cause, recording four hits, including two home runs, and five RBIs. He then added two hits and three RBIs in Tuesday's 17-1 win over Muskegon.

The Packers men's track and field standout had a record-setting day Friday at the Kent City Elite Invitational, setting a new 2019 record by breaking his own school record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.87 seconds. He ran a time of 39.96 seconds in the 300 hurdles.

The Cardinals baseball standout struck out 10 batters, had three hits and had three RBIs in his team's 7-3 win over Shelby in the first game of a doubleheader Friday night at Marsh Field. He added three RBIs and won 16-12. Nightcap.

The Pirates baseball standout continued on the mound this week after recording 14 strikeouts and allowing just two hits and two walks in Tuesday's 7-1 win over Shelby in the league doubleheader opener. I maintained my concentration. In the nightcap, Weirich went 3-for-5 from the plate, hitting the winning hit in an 8-7 walk-off win over the Tigers.

The Crusaders baseball standout allowed just one hit on the mound in Tuesday's 16-1 win over Wyoming Lee, but helped his cause at the plate by adding three hits and three RBIs. .
