EA Play, the service that allows users to play EA titles by downloading games from a library of their choice through a subscription, is seeing a price increase.
EA announced that prices for all EA Play tiers will continue to increase. The basic plan, which allows you to select games from your “vault,” will increase in price from $1 to $6 per month, along with limited early access to new titles. Annual plans range from $30 to $40.
The Pro level lets you choose from more games outside of the vault, including new titles, exclusive early access to new launch titles, and an increase of $2 per month to $17. Annual plans range from $100 to $120 per year.
There are currently no notable changes regarding access via GamePass, but Microsoft already introduced GamePass price increases last year. Meanwhile, Sony also introduced a significant price increase for PS Plus last year. In addition to price hikes in the gaming industry, nearly all movie streaming services increased their prices last year along with a crackdown on password sharing, and there are rumors of further price hikes this year.
All of these price adjustments make me just happy as an “old school” gamer who prefers physical copies of my games. Especially when the initial paywall to get the game is met by “live service” titles that ask for even more money.
