PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — University of West Florida Louis Baer Jr. undergraduate students have won the 2024 Southeastern Hedge Fund Strategy Competition.
The competition, sponsored by Georgia State University's Mack Robinson College of Business, “offers participants an opportunity to apply theory to practical strategies.” According to the Southeastern Hedge Fund Strategy website, “Student teams submit hedge fund strategy proposals that are evaluated by a panel of investment experts.”
The UWF student team, made up of MBA student Ada Touremis and undergraduate accounting and finance major Aaron Correll, beat students from 28 other universities with their paper “Bullwhip Strategy,” according to a statement. .
“We had the opportunity to travel to Atlanta and present our strategy to a group of high-level investment professionals and finalist students from around the world,” Correll said. “It was especially rewarding to be able to speak with prominent hedge fund managers about our research process, the application of our strategies, and the current state of the financial world today.”
Mr. Touremis added, “Not only was it a great learning experience, but it was also a great networking opportunity that will prepare you for the next step in your financial career.”
