OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University undergraduate group wins second place in international competition cyber- 9/12 Strategic Challenge in Washington DC With this, the UVU Cyber Security Team “W0LV3R1NES” proved they can compete with the best teams in the country.
The Wolverines were the only team made up entirely of undergraduate students. They defeated teams from Columbia University, the United States Military Academy at West Point, and several other top schools out of the 43 teams they played.
In a release from UVU, the team's coach, Brandon Amacher, called the team “gross.”The amateur is also the director U.V.U.Advanced Technology Policy Laboratory
Amacher said the team had to respond to a global cybersecurity breach and present solutions to industry and academic judges as the scenario unfolded.
Additionally, the judge asked the team to justify its decision, considering how it would impact civilians, the military, law enforcement, and private businesses.
Duke University took first place.
“We understand that we don't necessarily have the same name recognition as some schools,” Amacher said in the release. The time it takes to perfect the skills needed to succeed. ”
Members of the UVU team included Hope Fager, Camden Meade, Cooper Hopkin and Nicholas Bradley, while the Intel support team included Amanda Tew, Malik Rowe, Apollonia Perfetti and Jake Huber.
