Instagram has long been a hotbed of travel inspiration, and now the app is taking it a step further with an updated Notes feature.
Starting Thursday, users will be able to ask their friends for travel recommendations and more through Notes Prompts, Instagram's parent company Meta announced in a press release. Travel + Leisure.
“Today, we're excited to launch Notes Prompts, an easy way for the Instagram community to ask friends for recommendations and connect through them,” Ashley Alexander, head of product management at Instagram, said in a statement. “With summer travel season upon us, Notes Prompts is the perfect way to get ideas for hotels, restaurants, and activities from your friends as you plan your trip.”
As Alexander pointed out (no joke), travelers can use the new feature to plan any kind of trip, whether that's to collect summer travel recommendations, ask friends and followers for their “favorite honeymoon spots,” or even ask for “advice on what to do in specific destinations.”
Instagram users can also use it to crowdsource recommendations for the best luggage, headphones, and travel accessories.
In addition to posting questions using Notes Prompts, users can now take advantage of Notes Likes, which allows them to quickly respond to and “like” their friends' notes. (To “like” a note, double-tap the note or click the heart icon. You can also use Notes @mentions to tag friends directly.)
Of course, you can also use the new note prompts, like we did, to start an Instagram debate with your friends about some seriously hot topics, like whether it's OK to take your shoes off on a plane (I'm a socks person, sorry), how many pairs of underwear you're OK with bringing on vacation (one pair for each day, plus an extra pair just in case), or whether you'd be hesitant to recline your seat the next time you're on a plane (recliner all the way!).
