Millbrook Elementary Principal Jack Osteen said the school was building a strong foundation in cross-curricular mathematics and critical thinking skills.
“STEM demonstrations inspire and motivate parents to introduce their children to careers in math and science from an early age. By having companies like SRNS participate in Family STEM Nights, we encourage parents to explore new and niche careers. We can shine a light,” Osteen said.
For 40 years, SRS Education Outreach and the Aiken Ruth Patrick Center for Science Education at the University of South Carolina have partnered to infuse the wonders of science into students' learning experiences. SRS volunteers support local schools by using the Education Center's science and math kits for educational displays and activities.
“Our volunteers can reserve science kits from the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center to perform demonstrations and experiments,” Mr Hewitt said. “We will continue to emphasize the Department of Energy’s mission-critical skills and careers to support a talented workforce.”
Four SRS volunteers participated in Kennedy Middle School's Career Reality Fair, which served more than 340 students.
The school's principal, Ryan Ashley, said: “Year 8 is an important year for students to explore and discover careers that match their unique skills and assets.” “We have helped students build career clusters based on their strengths and real-world scenarios that can impact their salary. Now they can work with different companies within those clusters. By connecting with experts, I was able to apply that knowledge.”
