We're in the midst of spring break, the time of year when families and college students alike head to sunny and far-flung destinations (or head home and stay there for a bit).
It's a little preview of summer with warm weather and school holidays, getting us ready for the season ahead. There's a cheer in the air that you don't get in winter, and we're heading into an even longer season. Brighter days.
As people embark on memorable vacations, I can't help but think about the travel-themed jewelry on the market. I also can't help but think about how the act of wandering has a huge impact on creators. If we were to dress up for the role we wanted, my travel girlfriend jewelry for now would look like gem-dotted palm trees and golden sunshine. It's very similar to Yvonne Leon's wanderlust-inducing piece at the top (I'm writing this because winter has returned to where I live. Outside, fresh flowers are blowing fiercely in the wind. It's blowing. I long for a warm beach.)
But jewelry comes in all shapes and sizes, and we find inspiration from all over the world. Some of the works depicted here talk about means of travel, such as airplanes, anchors, and compasses. Some people focus on things associated with a specific destination, such as palm trees or croissants. Other works are more abstract, created as odes to specific places. Bellagio's collection is inspired by the sacred sites of Asia. Nora Shoki's Japan-related works. And Harwell Godfrey glorified Egypt through its important symbol, the fly.
These travel jewelry are perfect to wear whether you're traveling somewhere for spring break or want to escape the hustle and bustle and go no further than your backyard.
