WHEELING – Michael Noble, a travel nurse from Charleston, South Carolina, decided to try out the Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic for the first time on Saturday.
He has worked all over the East Coast and is currently assigned to a hospital in Pittsburgh.
“I've never been to West Virginia. I love the mountains. Being in the mountains is where my soul is,” he said.
Noble said he thought the Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic would be a breeze because he had run the Pittsburgh Marathon a few weeks earlier, but he admitted he wasn't aware of the race's notorious hilly terrain before signing up.
“After the Pittsburgh Marathon, I thought everything else would be easy,” he said.
Noble said she enjoys road racing and running because it makes her feel good and like she's accomplished something. After years of living an unhealthy lifestyle, she decided to get fit and take up running. She enjoys setting goals and achieving her personal bests during races.
Noble encourages others to go for a run or get outside and move. As a travel nurse, she says she sees a lot of patients who can't use their bodies the way others can.
“Enjoy this moment. Be grateful for every moment you get to run,” he said.
Noble said she enjoys running because it makes her happy, and she enjoys the community of runners.
“I love racing wherever I am. Big or small, I love running and competing,” he said.
