1989
Under the coordination of Lower South Platte Water District Executive Director Marian Roe, fifth and sixth grade students from Platte Valley Elementary School helped plant native grasses along the river bank protection project.
Middle school prom royalty was Todd Brockowitz, Kristen Carlson, Jenny Kelly, Danny Warner, King Michael Nelson, and Queen Pam Wegman. Jason and Jeffrey Buttenbach and Mariah Rice were the crown bearers.
RHS royalty included Jonathan Nordyke, Ryan Burgess, Johnetta Durbin, Rhonda Nyup, King Eugene Neugebauer, and Queen Barb Brandt.
Julesburg, directed by Becky Kaiser, was one of three schools in Northeast Colorado to offer the new Colorado preschool program.
Ann was once again providing quality hair care at The Hair Merchant. KK Cafe advertised homemade pies made from scratch with zero cholesterol.
The Lions took first place in the league track and field meet, with the following athletes winning: Jeff Brockowitz (discus), Travis Davis (shooting), Brady Mercer (110 high hurdles, 300 medium hurdles), J.D. Nain (1600m), Buttenbach, Rehnquist, Werner, Nain (3200m relay), Mercer, Lanckried, Strasser, Lacey (400m and 800m relay). For the girls, Tori Sorensen won the shot put.
Platte Valley Elementary School Science Fair winners were Jeff Donjon, Doug Yoshimoto, Laura Randall, Natalie McCrary and Billy Sittner.
1984
New play equipment funded by the Colorado Lottery was being enjoyed by children at Meline Swimming Pool Park.
An unidentified man was arrested on suspicion of speeding and driving a stolen vehicle. The man evaded law enforcement for several hours while searching the riverbed. CST Larry Luft, Sheriff Herb Freesman, Police Chief Gene Mickelson, Officer Bob Bowker, Pete Pedersen, Russ Gronewald, and Steve Etienne assisted. Ron Knipp flew the plane over the river, and sheriff's officers Terry Hinde, Lee Hinde and Sal Garcia were also called to help.
The Julesburg Safeway store gifted JHS a new Atari 1200XL computer, which was installed in the 7th and 8th grade math rooms under the direction of Dennis Hill.
JHS senior Kathy Anderson was named an “Academic All-American” by the National Council on Secondary Education.
Ovid Methodist Church hosted a consignment sale, auction, and lunch to raise funds for construction. Lloyd Michael was the auctioneer. The Spanish Council of God in Juresburg organized a building project to replace Ovid's House of Maria Infante.
1979
Wilbur Peppercorn of the Sedgwick County ASCS Office reported that wheat farmers in Sedgwick County lost about half of their planned crop due to the drought.
Lawyers for the Unification Church under the leadership of Sun Myung Moon have informed Mayor Clark Bernhardt that they do not want to enter the site and cause conflict with law enforcement. Police Chief Gene Mickelson said the city of Julesburg supports the Green River ordinance, which prohibits door-to-door sales.
RHS prom royalty included Brenda Fredrick, Eric Burgess, King Robert Souder, and Queen Cheryl Shimamoto. Crown bearers were Tali Saya and Rishi Molendor.
The JHS Student Council sold tickets for a shopping spree at the Safeway store in Julesburg. First place winner Arlene Clark had her two minutes shopping which earned her the equivalent of $57.83, and second place shopper Beth Johnson had her one minute shopping which earned her $49.89. Assistant Manager Mike Waltemas came to help. JHS FHA recognized senior members Maureen Donnelly, Susan Andersen, and Sandy Clayton. Selected to represent Boys State were Robert Pays and Doug Alexander. Rick Sanger and David Connie were selected as alternates. 1st place in RHS girls track and field was Rhonda Brownell in the 80 yard low hurdles and high jump, Lisa Ort in the long jump, Gail Ray in the 440m, 1st place in the mile relay: P. Onken, C. Onken, C. Sundquist. was. and S. Demanche.
Eighth-grader Lisa Parikh set a new meet record in the shot put with a record of 33-8. Junior high school boys' track and field placed first in eight out of 16 events. Winning times and distances were set by Barry Mercer, Cory Kenney, Quentin Wallin, Mike Ness, John Cerrato, Tracy Kaiser, David Connie and Russ McKinstry.
1974
RHS Raider Baseball is 3-0 in Class A Lower Platte Valley Conference baseball games. The key hitters against Hakstan were Mike Lauer and Tom Inouye. Kirk Sytner's double and single led the batting against Pawnee.
The intense gunfire and puncture chase at speeds up to 130 miles per hour began in Ogallala and ended in Sedgwick. An Oklahoma murder suspect was arrested by police in Colorado and Nebraska.
Kathy Kaiser, Joan Lewinkel, and Delberta Harris were selected as Girls State delegates. Alternates were Tammy Zimmerman, Deanna Jenkins and Rebecca Randall.
Mary DeCastro and Bill Collins' engagement has been announced.
