COLUMBUS – The third of about 20 supercargo ships, this time with 549,000 pounds of cargo, will leave Adams County on Wednesday and pass through the region on its way to Hebron. .
It will follow the same route and will be delivered on March 30, including the areas of Piketon, Chillicothe and Canal Winchester, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.
While the first two Super Loads weighed 390,000 pounds, this Super Load weighs 549,000 pounds and is approximately 21 feet tall, 18 feet wide, and just over 172 feet long.
While there are no official road closures or detours planned, motorists should plan for significant delays along their route as slow road closures will be required during the journey.
The Ohio Department of Transportation carefully analyzed and planned the route to ensure it could accommodate these overloads. Each load is escorted by several Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, so emergency traffic gets around rolling barricades with minimal delay. We worked with partners including local governments and utility companies to coordinate and relocate obstacles along the route, including large overhead signs, traffic lights, and utility lines.
To further minimize the impact, the schedule of each of the approximately 20 parcels will be checked against local events such as festivals and trade fairs.
Advance notice will be given for shipments departing from the Ohio River docks near the village of Manchester in Adams County. Updates will be provided as each road moves north toward central Ohio.

The route the package will take includes:
- From the docks east of Manchester, take Route 52 east to West Portsmouth.
- In west Portsmouth, enter the westbound lanes of Route 52 just before the intersection of SR 239 at the ramp to Route 52 westbound.
- Take the SR 239 southbound ramp north to SR 73/SR 104.
- Continue south in the northbound lanes of State Route 73/SR 104 until you reach US 52.
- Continue east in the westbound lanes of US 52 until you reach US 23 in Portsmouth.
- Take the US 23 southbound ramp north to US 52 westbound.
- Continue north in the northbound lanes of US 23 to the intersection of Kinneys Lane and Argonne Road.
- Cross over to the northbound lanes and continue north on US 23 to the village of Piketon.
- In Piketon Village, cross into the southbound lanes of US 23 at Market Street, avoid the traffic light, then return to the northbound lanes of US 23.
- Head north on US 23 to Chillicothe
- Take US 35 West to SR 104 North.
- Take SR 104 North to SR 762 near Commercial Point.
- Take SR 762 east to Rickenbacker Parkway
- Continue north on Rickenbacker Parkway until you reach Alum Creek Drive.
- Continue north on Alum Creek Drive to Lohr Road.
- Continue east on Rohr Road to Commerce Center Drive.
- Continue north on Commerce Center Drive and south on Green Point Drive.
- Go east on Green Point Drive and south to Saltzgaber Road.
- Follow Saltzgaber Road south to SR 317.
- Follow the southbound lanes of SR 317 north through Groveport and east to Bixby Road.
- Continue east on Bixby Road to US 33.
- Stay east in the westbound lanes of US 33 and south to Gender Road to the US33 westbound ramp at Winchester Canal.
- Head south on Gender Road in the opposite direction to the US 33 westbound ramp.
- Continue north on SR 674/Gender Road to Brice Road.
- Continue north on Brice Road to its intersection with Tussing Road/SR 204 in Columbus.
- Follow Tussing Road/SR 204 East east to SR 310.
- Continue north on SR 310 to US 40 in Etna.
- Continue east on US 40 to SR 79 in Hebron.
- Take the SR 79 southbound ramp in the opposite direction toward US 40.
- Continue north in the southbound lanes of SR 79 until you reach the local road.
