Minecraft may now be the best-selling video game of all time, but its beginnings were still modest. Development of the Survival Craft game began around May 10th of 2009, and the first public release of the game was on May 17th. Since then, the game has enjoyed content updates, spin-off games, new platform releases, and expanded feature sets over its 15 years. etc. Nearly a decade ago, Minecraft became part of the Xbox family.
So how are Mojang Studios and Xbox celebrating this important milestone? Now, a ton of new in-game art and music is coming to Minecraft as part of the Minecraft 1.21 “Tricky Trials” update We already know that, but the creators of Minecraft certainly don't stop there.
A short teaser trailer revealed that Mojang is planning a 15-day celebration for Minecraft's birthday. This is the one day every year that Minecraft has dominated the video game industry. For over two weeks, Mojang has been inviting the community to enjoy different themed gifts and discounted items, perhaps primarily from his Minecraft Marketplace, with each day focusing on a different year in Minecraft history. Mojang Studios isn't in a rush to reveal all the surprises, but it does tease a number of presents for the Minecraft community. One thing we know for sure is that players will be gifted a new free character creator item every day. There are other special giveaways and discounts to celebrate Minecraft, and Mojang uses words like “view,” “share,” “play,” and “explore” to describe the gifts. However, we hope that Mojang Studios and Xbox have something big planned for Minecraft's actual birthday beyond the free character creator and marketplace his items.
