It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt, and that's exactly what happened in some seemingly harmless video games.
We've compiled three examples of popular video games that have accidentally harmed players.
Mario Party for N64
Mario Party debuted on the Nintendo 64 in Japan on December 18, 1998, and was subsequently released in the United States on February 8, 1999.
The game ultimately spawned a long-running franchise of Mario Party titles, with the first entry now a prized collectible item.
It was very popular, but many fans suffered injuries to their hands.
Some of the mini-games in the series require you to rotate the N64 controller's analog stick very quickly.
Multiple injury complaints were filed with the New York State Attorney General's Office, prompting Nintendo to issue gloves to players.
This was expected to cost Nintendo millions of dollars.
Pokemon GO
Pokémon Go is another popular game that has led some enthusiastic players into dangerous situations.
This game uses augmented reality to find Pokemon around you.
While it was praised for being able to take gamers outside, some users took it too far and remained glued to their phones while playing.
In 2018, a Pokemon GO player was so glued to his phone screen that he fell onto the train tracks and had his leg amputated.
The gamer fell into the electrified part of the truck and suffered severe burns to his leg, which had to be removed.
According to the Mirror, a doctor in charge of the case warned that more people are dying from looking at their mobile phones while walking.
Wii sports tennis
Wii Sports was released in 2006 and quickly became a very popular sports simulation game.
Athletes can choose from a variety of sports at home, but it is said to be the sport that causes the most injuries.
According to the National Library of Medicine, the reported injury occurred within the Wii Tennis game.
“Of the 39 Wii-related injuries reported over a two-year period, we found that 46% occurred while playing Wii Sports Tennis software.
“Additionally, we identified 14 different injury patterns that occur during gameplay.
“Of these injuries, hand lacerations were the most common, accounting for 44% of the total number of reported cases,” the National Library of Medicine wrote after the study.
It's important to remember that these games are harmless fun if you play safe and follow the game's instructions.
