The release of Naughty Dog's next project may be years away, but studio head Neil Druckmann is already making big promises about what his award-winning team can achieve.
Recent Speaking to publisher Sony, Druckmann said: Insight into Naughty Dog's goals for its next project. The studio wants to change the reputation of video games among non-gamers.
“[The Last Of Us’] “This success has shone a spotlight on the game and validated the rich, immersive experience it provides,” Druckmann said. “I'm excited to see how this new game resonates, especially following this success. The Last of UsBecause it has the potential to redefine mainstream perception of gaming.”
Druckmann said he hopes the Emmy Award-winning show's recent success will directly translate to more interest in the medium.
“This level of interest makes me excited not only about our current projects, but also about the broader potential for the game to reach audiences around the world,” he continued.
His claims sound grandiose ahead of the release of a mysterious game, but Druckmann is perhaps in the best position to make such a declaration. The game has tackled mature themes as far as fidelity allows, but 2013's The Last of Us It has broken into the mainstream thanks to its engaging, well-written characters and relatable subject matter. The Last of Us Its willingness to take traditional storytelling techniques usually reserved for Hollywood production companies and execute them as well as Hollywood could is one of the reasons the 2023 TV version is sure to be a hit.
Games and filmmaking aren't entirely separate worlds. Since the '90s, Hollywood heavyweights like Vin Diesel and James Cameron have had a hand in game productions, offering image rights to creative minds. But in recent years, the relationship between the two industries has been reversed. Prime Video's fall out Paramount Sonic the hedgehog The movies have helped resurgences in prestigious TV shows and blockbuster movies, and it's clear that games are a new source of inspiration for Hollywood, especially as interest in the superhero genre wanes.
Beyond just broadcasting games on the big screen, the two industries have also developed a symbiotic relationship in how they use technology. Fortnite Epic Games, the film's production company, has licensed the technology to studios such as Lucasfilm, creating an entirely new way to create special effects on a low budget. Meanwhile, the motion capture technology used in the film is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apeshas helped elevate the way games communicate emotion and storytelling, as seen in the recently released Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2.
Druckmann said advances in how such projects are put together are also helping the company as it seeks a foothold in TV production.
“Remote work tools have reduced travel and streamlined the production process,” he says. “While filming for The Last of Us Season 2 took place in Canada, I was able to oversee production from Los Angeles via phone and computer.”
Whatever game Naughty Dog is developing, we know it probably won't be a Last of Us game. Either way, we'll be excited to see it when it arrives. Hellblade 2 It's a glimpse into what talented game developers can do with Hollywood technology. The Last of Us Part 2 Use Unlike hardware from almost a decade ago, current consoles, and even next-gen consoles, are limitless.
