To what extent does this government care about the Greek Diaspora and the Ecumenical Patriarchate? Little to no. Not at all. There is no justification for this stance other than that the congregations of prominent Greeks abroad are represented by politically less well-known members.
For the first time, archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate gathered in Athens, and hundreds of notable figures from the United States, Europe and elsewhere traveled by private jet and other means to attend “Greece 2.0,” the miracle country that the government boasts is the creation of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself.
It is unclear why Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis and his Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou have so provocatively ignored hundreds of international personalities of Greek descent.
Who supports Greece?
The entire Greek government was absent. Only the largely unknown Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Kotsilas and the (nearly-dismissed) Director General of Greek Affairs Abroad Yannis Chrysoourakis were tasked with representing the government at the Archon event.
Well, the people are good people. But their positions are much less important than these luminaries. It was clear that their intention was not to glorify them, but to deliberately discredit them. The dutiful Foreign Minister Gelapetritis followed the instructions of his Deputy Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou.
“But these Archons are not supporting Greece, they are supporting the Patriarchate,” some argue. They are not only supporting the Patriarchate. They are supporting Greek schools in the United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Africa. They are supporting the work of the Church and therefore the interests of the Greek community. Archons in the United States, Europe, Africa and Greece.
The accomplishments that Thanasis Martinos, the president of the Greek Archons, has achieved through his church surpasses the combined efforts of the five ministries under Mitsotakis’ administration. The Greek government clearly ignores individuals who speak out, speak out, and support Greece because it clearly does not need them.
Greece is lobbying with Endy Zemenides and Senator Menendez, who was allegedly arrested red-handed and the US justice system is eagerly waiting for him.
Even Pompeo had an interest in Greece. These details seem inconsequential to the Greek Foreign Ministry and the Mitsotakis government. These billionaires, millionaires and other foreign notables often wield influence through their famous postal vote. Let's speak to the heart of this government.
