The Colorado Springs Gazette received numerous national awards from Associated Press Sports Editors for its 2023 accomplishments.
The sports division was in the top 10 in the print portfolio category (taking into account daily and Sunday editions) and digital category.
The Gazette competes in the third-largest category, which includes the Daily Memphian, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Lincoln (Neb.) Journal Star, The State (Columbia, SC), Wichita Eagle, and Wisconsin State Journal. Publications are also included.
“It's always exciting to see our work admired and compared to our peers on a national level,” said Sports Editor Brent Bryggeman. “He has added three sportswriters over the past two years, and the fact that we were able to do a screening like this again at the APSE Awards shows that the transition has been seamless and that we We believe in the hard work and dedication of our staff to cover sports in our community.”
Reporter Carson Field won in the short feature category for his profile of University of Colorado goaltender Kaidan Mbeleko. This was Field's first APSE award.
