Terra Linda High School's Nicholas Arinduque defeated other athletes to the wall to win the 100-yard breaststroke at the North Coast Section Championships on Saturday at the Concord Community Pool.
Arinduque entered the meet with the second-best seeded time and then ran a time of 56.25 seconds to win the section title. Arinduque finished 0.26 seconds ahead of Monte Vista's Sammy Kang.
Arinduque's title capped off a strong day for the Terra Linda Boys, who earned two top-three finishes and two fifth-place relay finishes for Ben Butler, who finished eighth in the team standings with 114 points.
Butler placed second in the 100 free (45.37) and third in the 200 free (1:38.53). Butler finished second to Northgate's Mason Wendler (44.73 seconds) in the 100 meters and behind Foothill's Luka Mijatovic (1:36.25) and Wendler (1:37.42) in the 200 meters.
TL's 200-meter medley relay team of Butler, Arin Duque, Rhys Galloway and Jack Middleton took fifth place with a time of 1:36.47. The 200 free relay team of Jackson Wright, Arinduque, Middleton and Butler placed fifth with a time of 1:26.34.
Marin's other A finalists were Branson's Cameron Arianpour, Tam's Addison Everage and the Marin Catholic girls 200 free relay team in two events.
Arianpour placed third in the 100 butterfly (50.35 points) and seventh in the 50 free (21.28 points). Everage placed 6th in the women's 100 fly with a score of 56.99, and won the B final in the 100 fly (57.98), placing 9th overall.
The MC team of Alyssa Couey, Amelia Kiriakis, Claire Cassidy and Esme Kee came in 8th place (1:41.26).

San Rafael resident and Marine Waves standout Ellie McCaskey-Hay won two events and placed second in two others for St. Ignatius High School at the West Catholic Athletic League Championships on Friday. It became.
McCaskey-Hay, a sophomore, won both sprint events in the 100 in 11.89 seconds and the 200 in 25.02 seconds, and finished second in the long jump (16-11). McCaskey-Hay also joined the team in second place (49.65 points) in the 4×100 relay.
