Texas Tech track and field competed in the opening day of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships Thursday at Baylor University in Waco.
Tech University entered the outdoor postseason with its men's team ranked among the top teams in the Big 12. According to Tech Athletics, the women's team finished second behind the University of Texas.
In the men's 200-meter event, four Red Raiders qualified for Saturday's final. Junior Sean Brown took second with a season-best time of 20.62 seconds. Junior Josh Barr, sophomore Antwon Andrews and senior Jack Marshall each took fifth through seventh place. Buhl had a time of 20.74 seconds, Andrews had a time of 20.74 seconds and Marshall had a time of 20.85 seconds.
In the women's 1,500-meter event, freshman Juliette Cerbet placed second with a time of 4:18.28. It was the sixth such feat in Tech history and guaranteed Cerbet a spot in Saturday's final, according to Tech Athletics.
Red Raiders junior Cole Omlin competed in the decathlon and entered Friday's second day in sixth place with 3,743 points.
Omrin set new personal bests in the high jump and 400 meters, according to Tech Athletics. Omrin placed first in the decathlon high jump with a leap of 2.01 meters and placed eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 50.99 seconds.
Junior Oscar Edlund placed second in the boys' 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.72 seconds. Graduate student Caleb Dean finished fourth in his first race since the indoor championships on May 9 with a time of 50.22 seconds. Edlund and Dean both qualified for Saturday's final.
Freshman Anastasia Chepkorir placed third in the women's 10,000 meter event with a time of 34:48.13, earning six points for the women's team.
Freshman Ernest Cheruiyot placed fourth in the men's 10,000-meter event with a time of 29:21.67, earning him five points for Polytechnic University.
Senior Edward Rush placed sixth in the men's 1,500-meter event with a time of 3:42.86, securing a spot in Saturday's finals. According to Tech Athletics, Rush ranks fifth in Tech history in the men's 1,500-meter event.
Senior Rosemary Chukwuma qualified for Saturday's women's 200-meter final by placing ninth in the women's 200-meter final with a time of 23.34 seconds. on Thursday. Junior teammate Success Umukoro finished 10th with a time of 23.57 seconds, missing out on qualification by one place.
According to Tech Athletics, senior Connor Wood placed sixth in the men's hammer throw with a personal best of 62.80 meters. Wood earned three points for the Tech team.
The boys team finished the first day in 6th place with a total of 8 points, while the girls team enters Friday in 5th place with 6 points.
Day two of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships begins Friday with the women's javelin throw competition at 9:15 a.m. The Big 12 Outdoor Championship will be available to stream on ESPN+ and live stats will be updated on his website at Tech Athletics.
