Nashville, Tennessee – The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will suspend all interstate construction work over Easter weekend in anticipation of an increase in holiday travel.
TDOT crews and contractors will cease all road work requiring lane closures from 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28th until 6:00 a.m. Monday, April 1st. This will provide maximum road capacity for drivers who are expected to travel across the state over the upcoming holiday weekend.
Motorists may continue to experience extended lane closures as construction projects continue.
Lane closure activities will be suspended, but some workers may be on site in the construction zone and reduced speed limits will remain in place. Motorists are asked to abide by all posted speed limits for their safety, especially in work zones. Due to the preliminary layout of the road, lower speeds are required and enforced in work zones.
Just three months into this year, there have already been 27 accidents in which drivers collided with TDOT vehicles and equipment.
- 7 Help Track
- 4 Attenuator
- 6 Other TDOT equipment (dump trucks, message boards, etc.)
- 10 TDOT Passenger Vehicles (Pickups and Sedan)
Do your part to keep yourself and TDOT road workers safe. Check his TDOT SmartWay ahead of time to confirm before you leave, secure your cell phone to your hands-free device, and if you spot a vehicle with flashing lights, slow down and move to cooperate. .
