Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) is investigating a “network outage,” and the district immediately shuts off access to its network, brings in a professional third-party cybersecurity firm, and will keep schools closed at least Monday and likely Tuesday. was decided to close.
In an email sent to TCAPS officials Saturday night, the district said it was “investigating a network outage that affected the functionality and access of certain systems. Upon learning of this incident, TCAPS immediately “We have cut off access and immediately contacted a specialized third party.” The party's cybersecurity firm and her IT personnel will assist in securing the environment, as well as conduct a comprehensive investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The forensic investigation is ongoing and we will provide additional updates as more information becomes available. Thank you for your patience as we continue to evaluate this situation. ”
As a result of this incident, TCAPS classes will be canceled on Monday. “The possibility of classes being canceled on Tuesday is unknown at this time,” the school district said in a statement. “We will provide that information either Sunday night or Monday morning.”
To “expedite the investigation,” TCAPS asked staff to:
> Refrain from using TCAPS systems until more communications are shared.
> Reset passwords and multi-factor authentication once the system is available
> At some point on Monday or possibly Tuesday, staff will be asked to bring their staff laptops on-site to perform a critical network upgrade. “It is unclear at this time whether the upgrade can be pushed to all devices or whether a manual upgrade will be required,” the district wrote.
“Protecting the integrity of our systems and the information we maintain is extremely important to us,” the district wrote. “We already have strong measures in place to prevent these types of incidents, and we are committed to taking additional steps to further strengthen our safety measures in the future.”
