Thirteen University of North Georgia (UNG) students attended the Southeast Asian College of Sports Medicine (SEACSM) Annual Meeting in Greenville, South Carolina, February 22-24. While there, some students participated in a Quiz Bowl competition and others shared poster presentations.
“Conferences like this are great for student growth through networking, camaraderie, professional development, scientific knowledge, and more,” said Dr. Sabrina Fordham, associate dean and associate professor of kinesiology. . She said, “Some students came back with ideas for their own research.”
Three UNG students shared their poster presentations during the conference.
- Daniel Bull: “Analysis of the Shortened Functional Motor Screen.”
- Lily Colan: “Improved anaerobic performance after ingestion of R-1,3-butanediol (KETONEIQ)”
- Ray Davies and Shep Hancock: “Effects of non-stimulatory pre-workout combined with exogenous caffeine and ketone supplementation”
Koran is a fourth-year student pursuing a degree in exercise science who placed third in the undergraduate poster contest.
“The research work has been very fulfilling,” said the Acworth, Ga., native. “It was great to see all the hard work paid off and recognized.” “It showed me that I was pursuing the right career field and doing what I was meant to do.”
UNG was also represented in the conference's Quiz Bowl for the first time since UNG began student attendance last year. Juniors Connor McKay and Zachary Payne competed and placed sixth out of 32 teams.
“Quiz Bowl was a great opportunity to see how the quality of teaching in the Department of Kinesiology's Exercise Science Concentration compares with programs at other universities,” Professor McKay said.
