WILLIAMSPORT — More than 200 students from 18 schools in Union, Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, and Tioga counties gathered on the Pennsylvania College of Technology campus recently, where Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) Participated in a student government seminar sponsored by the university. He serves as chairman of the Penn College Board of Trustees.
The seminar gave high school students the opportunity to discuss important issues, enact legislation, and vote on “mock bills” in a public meeting.
“Student Government Seminars are a great opportunity for high school students to interact with local and state government officials,” Yeo said. “The goal is for students to gain a deeper understanding of the legislative process and develop professional relationships that can open doors to future internship and job opportunities.”
The event, one of the largest Senate-sponsored student government seminars in the commonwealth, hosted: local and state government employees; Lobbyists and special interest groups. and a student representative.
Penn College President Dr. Michael J. Reed welcomed the gathering and introduced Yaw, who offered words of encouragement to the young leaders.

This year's participating high schools are: Athens Area High School, Canton Junior/Senior High School, Fellowship of Christian Home Education, Grace Christian Academy, Jersey Shore Area High School, Lewisburg Area High School, Loyalsock Township High School, Mifflinburg Area High School, and Montgomery. Area High School, Montoursville Area High School, Muncie High School, St. John Neumann Regional Academy, South Williamsport Area Junior/Senior High School, Sullivan County High School, Towanda Area Junior/Senior High School, Troy Junior/Senior High School, Williamson Jr./ Senior High School, and Williamsport Area High School.
