The Student Senate is scheduled to consider a resolution advocating a ceasefire in Gaza and condemning hate speech at its final meeting of the academic year on Wednesday.
The Senate will consider a motion to expedite the resolution, which would mean bypassing committee consideration. If a two-thirds majority agrees to early adoption of the resolution, the Senate will vote to adopt the resolution on Wednesday.
If the fast-track motion fails, the Senate will not vote on adopting the resolution until next year.
The resolution, titled “Resolution to Endow Laws Promoting Peace and Human Rights by Advocating for a Durable Ceasefire in Gaza, Condemning Hate Speech, and Strengthening Educational Resources on Palestine and Israel,” , if moved quickly, would require a simple majority. pass.
If the resolution passes, it will be presented to student body president Alison Marquardt for her signature. Mr. Marquardt has 10 days from receipt of the lesson to veto it.

North Carolina Young Democratic Socialists of America and 13 other student organizations petitioned the student government to adopt a call for a ceasefire in Gaza in an Instagram post Sunday.
The resolution will be filed in conjunction with a resolution recommending that the board adopt the Chicago Principles, a set of guidelines that express the university's commitment to preserving freedom of expression on campus. The Senate is also scheduled to consider a motion to expedite the resolution on Wednesday.
