Following the previous meeting, the April 25 Student Government Association meeting featured presentations by the remaining six club candidates.
A quorum was reached at 6:03 p.m., and 11 members arrived at the meeting just after the scheduled start time of 6 p.m. Based on the 6:07 p.m. call to order, eight people were recorded as late in the meeting minutes. All members who arrived late participated in the vote on club approval, even if they were not present at the presentation.
BridgeH2OPE, Women's Club Basketball, Makers Guild, Global Medical Brigades, Culinary Club, Cheese Club, and Students for Life of America presented as pending organizations.
Makers Guilds, Global Medical Brigades and Cheese Club were rejected, according to the informal meeting minutes.
All approved clubs were approved by at least nine votes, except for Students for Life of America, which had 12 votes in favor, five against, and four abstentions. Despite majority approval, student government members grilled students representing a national “pro-life advocacy group.” Several student government members expressed clear displeasure with the presentation. Inclusivity officer Sasha Carter, 27, directly asked presenter Sydney Jones, 27, if she was Catholic.
After the club's presentation, the student government went into an approximately hour-long board meeting to vote on the club. During this time I could hear the air purifier turning on and moving towards the door. The purifiers were then turned off after the board meeting ended.
Budget approval was also made during the meeting. One of his requests was for his $290 from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which Finance Minister Christo Maheras '26 recommended to the Student Government Association and rejected. Congresswoman Liz Boller '26, a member of the club, provided a rationale for approving this request. Mr. Maheras changed the recommendation to approval without consulting the Budget Committee, and Mr. Boler seconded the motion to approve the budget. Bora also did not abstain from voting.
