At its April 4th meeting, the Student Government Association (SGA) received a special presentation from the Survivor Support Center.
Anna Magee, Associate Director of Health Promotion and Survivor Support Advocacy, presented information about the center's mission to “provide the best possible support to survivors of gender-based violence.”
McGee also informed attendees about sexual assault awareness events scheduled to be held on campus in April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. One of these events is “Take Back The Night,” where survivors of sexual assault can share their stories and experiences.
“If you or someone you know would like to share their experience of assault about what it means to be a female-identifying person in society, [or] Please feel free to contact us to discuss what rape culture means to you [reach out]” said Maggie.
Three new budget requests were approved during the special operations period.
The first request was for $1,540 to purchase a new charging station for the campus library. These new chargers include Type-C cables that are not available on current stations.
The Senate approved the request with 24 votes in favor, 8 against, and 0 abstentions.
Sen. Shaina Miller has submitted another budget request for the upcoming Earth Day Fair.
She asked for $59 in trivia prizes, including recycled paper pens, milkweed seed packets and Earth Day stickers. The supplies will be used for her SGA interactive table at the trade show.
“In addition to using regular tableware, SGA will also be doing Earth Day sustainability trivia about the world to learn more. [students] We are committed to sustainability here,” Miller said.
The Senate approved the request with 30 votes in favor, zero votes against, and two abstentions.
The third budget request requested $60 in resources to host a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) table event. This event aims to raise awareness about the approaching FAFSA deadline by exploring financial access to academic resources.
President Joseph Gassensmith attended the meeting but chose not to give an executive report, instead wishing everyone a “Happy One Ball State Day.”
Finance Minister Isaac Redford called on senators to submit their budget requests as soon as possible, as the deadline for submitting them approaches.
Chief of Staff Katrina Lemming told the Senate that graduating ministers are working on a transition document for the new administration.
The meeting was adjourned without any new or unfinished business being resolved.
