Friday wasn't Thursday for Kevin Streelman and his friends at the Valspar Championship.
Challenging weather conditions led to higher scores at Innisbrook's Copperhead Course, with Streelman going from an opening 64 to a 1-over 72 in the second round.
Still, by the time the afternoon wave began and he signed his card, Streelman was at the top of the leaderboard at 6 under. One of the big differences between his game on day one and day two was on the greens, where Streelman went from eighth in the field in strokes gained to a putting 72.n.d..
His ball marker is apparently not a miracle worker. But as he says, it's straightforward, innovative and effective. further explained on friday.
“It’s not rocket science, but it makes sense,” he said. “If you drop the line near where you want to wind it, and use that line, [on your ball] When you match those up, it gives you the confidence to say, “This is pretty close to where I want this ball to roll.” You may need to think it through to some extent. ”
He showed the marker to Golf Channel's Kira K. Dixon. You can watch it in the video at the top of the page. He also made sure to get USGA approval before using it this week, cutting it down to 1 inch to comply with regulations.
And while he was unable to find success on the greens in the second round, he is not fazed by his play going into what is expected to be an even tougher match.
“No, I'm not frustrated. It's very much a chess match today hole by hole,” he said. “I had some good looks, some missed, some hit. I'm really proud of my short game and iron play, and I'm still just trying to stay in position.”
