ST. CLOUD – All spring sports are back in full swing, and with that comes the return of the weekly “Athlete of the Week” voting.
The week of April 7-13 saw a lacrosse player score his first goal, a diamond athlete get his season back on track, and several area track and field athletes won competitions.
The St. Cloud Times lists the accomplishments of athletes from Albany, Becker, Foley, Holdingford, Kimball, ROCORI, Royalton and Sartell St. Louis in alphabetical order. Stephen, Sauk Rapids Rice, St. Cloud Apollo, St. Cloud Cathedral, St. Cloud Tech, St. John's Prep. Until Saturday night, vote for who you think had the most impressive performance last week.

Albany Women's Golf Seniors
The Albany women's golf team was able to play 18 holes from April 9 at Foley's Stone Creek to 18 holes at Monticello Country Club on April 10.The Huskies finished second with Foley and finished 10th.th At Monticello.
Senior Sophia Anderson finished in the top 10 on both days. She shot a 46 at Stone Creek, tied for fifth behind her senior teammate Maddie Ramler and her leading 42. At Monticello, Anderson shot an 83 for seventh place, seven strokes ahead of the winner.

In addition to competing in two field events, junior Owen Angell won both hurdle races at Zimmerman's Thunder Quad on April 11. His 110 time was 15.51 seconds and his 300 time was 42.18 seconds. Angel tied for second in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 6 inches. He placed fourth in the long jump.
Riley Brace
Holdingford Track and Field 2nd year student
Riley Brace won three events at the BBE Invitational on April 9 and finished in the top three in four events two days later at the Hooligan Extravaganza at Pillager. At the BBE, she won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.36, the high jump with a height of 5 feet 2 inches, and the long jump with a length of 15 feet 3 inches.
At Pillager, Brace won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.71 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 48.32 seconds. She placed third in the high jump and long jump. Brees cleared 4 feet 10 inches vertically and 15 feet horizontally.

Becker (6-1) men's tennis team had three wins last week, but the No. 1 doubles team of Sawyer Brown and Landon Peterson won three and allowed just four sets to their opponents. On April 9, Brown and Peterson defeated Connor Peterson and Ben Crandall of St. Francis (0-1) by scores of 6-0 and 6-1. On April 11, the pair defeated North Branch's Isaiah Das (1-5) and Ethan Thelander 6-0, 6-1. The next day, Brown and Peterson defeated Tech University (2-4)'s Josh Vogel and Marole Benn, 6-2, 6-0.

Ella Dubel won two shot put events last week: the Albany Invitational on April 9th and the Craig Jonshoi Invitational on April 12th. At the competition, she also placed first and second in the discus throw. At Albany, Duvel won the shot by throwing 33 feet, 2 inches and the discus by 106 feet, 4 inches. At Pierce, her shot hit the mark of 34 feet, 8.5 inches, and her 106 feet, 2 inches discus was less than four feet from the winning mark.

Her team went 1-2 in the opening week, but junior Sash Dubel went 5-8 with no strikeouts. She scored three times and had two more RBIs for Royalton (2-4), which meant she was involved in more than a quarter of the Royals' points in the opening three games.

On April 11, in Kimball's first win (5-0) over Holdingford (3-3), Riley Fisher had a great performance on the mound, recording 19 strikeouts in seven innings, 3-1. and set a school record.
Fisher started in left field on April 12 against Howard Lake-Waverly-Winstead (0-5) and went 2-4 with one run and one RBI. He went 0-4 with a strikeout against the Huskers.

Last week, Garrett Frink ran two 400-meter races and posted a time of 53.3 seconds. He placed second behind teammate Aiden Perrett at the BBE Invite on April 9th and won the dash at the Hooligan Extravaganza on April 11th. On April 11, Frink also placed second in the long jump with a jump of 19 feet, 7 inches.

Becker (6-0) posted a 3-0 record last week, including games against St. Francis (3-1) on April 9 and North Branch (3-3) on April 11. . Senior Ethan Gack hit .500 with eight at-bats. He had eight of the Bulldogs' 16 RBIs in three games. On April 12, against Monticello (3-2), Gack hit two two-run home runs. He had just one strikeout all week, but Gack, who took the mound in relief, had two kicks in two innings. He is credited with contributing a save in a 5-3 win over North Branch.

Freshman Trinity Hudler won the 3200-meter race at the Craig Jonshoi Invite on April 12 in 12:51.32 and placed fourth in the 1600-meter race in 5:52.86. Hudler also competed in the 800-meter race in Albany on April 9, finishing seventh.

At the BBE on April 9, senior Nick Hansen placed first in the 3200-meter race, tied for second in the triple jump, and tied for fourth in the long jump. In the distance race, Hansen recorded a time of 10:08.73 and reached 37 feet, 9 inches in the triple jump. His mark in the long jump was 18 feet 4 inches.

St. Cloud Clash Men's Lacrosse Senior
St. Cloud (2-1) started the season on the road with an 8-4 win on April 11 against Mound Westonka High School (1-2). Senior Connor Hallens was the Clash's leading scorer with three goals against the Whitehawks. He also assisted on four goals in this game.

For Becker, Adler Herdina was tearing up the tennis court. The sophomore played in the No. 2 solo slot for the Bulldogs last week, posting a 3-0 record. Since going 12-0 against Caleb Sheehan (St. Francis) on April 9, he has allowed just two set wins against his opponent. Later that week, he won back-to-back games against Gabe Urdeman (North Branch) on April 11th and Jair Wucheler (Tech) on April 12th, 6-1 and 6-0.

Junior Ella Kirchner won both the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints at the Noam Ayen Invitational held April 11 at Cambridge Isanti. She recorded times of 12.71 and 26.8 seconds in this event.

At the April 10 meet at Springbrook in Mora, Albany's Zach Kreuzer took second place individually and the Huskies won the team title. Cruiser shot a 75, one stroke behind first-year winner Torev Birkeland (Pequot Lakes). Two other Huskies finished in the top five, with Albany shooting 315 as a team, ahead of second place Pequot Lakes' 321.

St. Cloud senior goaltender Jonas Mallmanger allowed 4 of 21 shots on target in the Clash's win over Mound Westonka. He had a save percentage of .810.

Becker Women's Golf Junior
On April 10 at Monticello Country Club, junior Leila Matthews made birdie and four pars on the back nine to tie for fourth place. Her shot count was 82, which was behind her leader's total of 76. Becker was her fifth place as a team.

Brooke Mushatt won the shot put and discus events at the Princeton Invitational on April 11th. She threw the shot 31 feet 3.5 inches and the discus 114 feet 2 inches.

Senior Emily Novak finished on the podium in six field events out of two meets last week. She had two wins at the Albany Invitational on April 9th and two wins at the Craig Jonshoi Invitational on April 12th. At Albany, Novak won the long jump and triple jump with distances of 15 feet, 8.5 inches and 33 feet, 4 inches. She also placed second in the pole vault, falling four inches short of the winning 10-foot bar.
At Piatz, Novak won the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 4 inches and the triple jump with a distance of 33 feet, 8.5 inches. Finally, she placed third in the pole vault, achieving a height of 9 feet.

St. John's Prep Track Senior
Olivia Polley won both middle-distance events by wide margins at the BBE Invitational on April 9th. She won gold in the 800 meters in 2:31.25 and in the 1600 meters in 5:05.37, making her nearly 40 seconds faster than second place.

Foley lost its opener last week but won two games (3-1), with senior Josiah Petersen having a statistically good performance on the mound and at the plate. On April 9th, he recorded one out in the first inning against Pequot Lakes (1-4), and three days later against Eden Valley Watkins (3-2), he started the first 5 2/3 innings and pitched no games. They were held back by conceding a goal. The Eagles allowed two hits and no runs, with 12 strikeouts. Against Pequot Lakes, he had three strikeouts and three walks in both games.
At the plate, Petersen had 2 wins and 6 losses with 4 runs scored and 1 RBI. When he's not pitching, he's catching.

Louise Ruzanik competed in the 3200m event at the BBE Invitational on April 9th. Her winning time was 11:42.34, putting her over a minute ahead of second place.

Holdingford Track and Field 2nd year student
Gavin Sales competed in four events: the BBE Invite on April 9th and the Hooligan Extravaganza on April 11th, winning both 110m hurdles and second in the 300m hurdles. .
His sales improved with each race, posting a 16.93 in the 110 on April 9th and a 16.29 thereafter. In his 300 meter race, he ran a sales time of 45.05 seconds and then 43.96 seconds.
He placed fifth and eighth in the triple jump at both events.th and 11th In the long jump.

Last week, Sauer won two events in two different events. He won the 400-meter race at the Albany Invitational on April 11 in a time of 1:00.17, and the 100-meter race at the Craig Jonshoi Invitational on April 12 in a time of 12.8 seconds. Sauer also placed second in the 400-meter race at the Jonshoi Invite with a time of 1:01.18, about a quarter of a second behind the winner.

Senior Carter Schwalbe won two 1,600-meter races last week, the Albany Invitational on April 9th and the Craig Jonshoi Invitational on April 12th. He lowered his time from 4:47.46 to 4:44.3. At the Jonshøy Invite, Schwalbe also placed second in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:07.12, just over a second ahead of the winner.

Ean Stika won the pole vault at the Albany Invitational on April 9th, jumping 12 feet. At the April 12 Craig Jonshoi Invitational, she lost 6 inches on vault and took second place.
Lauren Wolfel
Becker Track and Field Senior
Senior Lauren Wolfel jumped 10 feet on Zimmerman's Thunder Quad on April 11. She won this event, and she placed second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.73 seconds. Werfel also placed ninth in the triple jump.
