From Jack Harris: Clayton Kershaw would have loved to have seen Tyler Glasnow and Logan Webb face off on Tuesday night.
I'm sure the viewers of TBS's national broadcasts will feel the same way.
Instead, the Dodgers' 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium featured Webb vs. Ryan Brazier…and Ryan Yarbrough…and Michael Grove…and the other guy the Dodgers probably first used. There were two pitchers. There will be a lot of bullpen games this season.
“We've been doing it for quite a while,” manager Dave Roberts said. “I think we were pioneers of some ideas that were met with resistance.”
In fact, anyone who was surprised that the club was already opting for such a patchwork pitching plan this early in the season probably shouldn't be.
As Roberts pointed out, the Dodgers have increasingly prioritized resting their starting pitchers in recent years. Gone are the days when rotation members were given the ball only once every five days. Now, teams want starting players to get five, six, or even seven days off as often as possible in hopes of keeping them healthy and maximizing their performance.

lakers
From Dan Wojke: The Lakers feel torn between two desires and two plans of action for the remaining two weeks of the regular season.
On the other hand, a string of strong plays over the past two months and a successful closing schedule have given them a chance to move out of last place in the NBA play-in tournament.
Continuing to win is the path to providing more cushion than a scenario where just one loss ends the season.
But there are other factors at play. It's all about the health of the team, especially the star players.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis were able to play in the Lakers' 128-111 win on Tuesday, but they will play the second game of a back-to-back against the Wizards in Washington on Wednesday, and then back home against Cleveland and Minnesota. A series of matches were coming up. , I'm concerned about the amount of work.

clippers
From Broderick Turner: Even with key player Kawhi Leonard out with a sore right knee, the Clippers continued to defend their goal.
And it was to end a four-game trip the right way with a win in Sacramento while Leonard was in Los Angeles undergoing knee treatment.
But that wasn't the case for the Clippers. The pop wasn't there and shots didn't go into the basket when it mattered most. The 26-point deficit in the fourth quarter was too much to overcome during a 109-point game. -95 loss to the Kings on Tuesday night at Golden 1 Center.

From Ben Bolch: For a moment, it was as if nothing had changed. UCLA athletic director Martin Jarmond walked to the practice field Tuesday morning and spotted a new football coach in a familiar spot.
“He got me there at running back,” Deshaun Foster said with a smile after the Bruins' second and first public appearance of spring practice. “I was like, oh, if I had come out here a little earlier, you would have seen me on the defensive field.”
After making the transition from running backs coach to head coach, Foster has made some changes of his own in an effort to not only welcome fans, recruits and former players to practice, but also to give the team a more family-like atmosphere. Ta. As anyone who has been a part of the program for decades may remember, it was the first time his name was emblazoned on the back of a jersey.

usc basketball
From Thuc Nguyen: She gathered herself, wiped away her tears, and stood on the stage. JuJu Watkins answered his first question without a hitch after USC's season ended abruptly with Monday's loss to Connecticut in the Elite Eight. But it was the mention of his teammates that ultimately struck a chord with the freshman.
The University of Southern California star guard buried his face in his hands and thanked his “best teammates in the world.” She tried to say more. Her emotions rose and her voice grew louder, and she stopped herself.
Security guard Mackenzie Forbes, who was sitting to her left, tapped Watkins on the leg. A graduate transfer from Harvard was there for support, as she has been all season.
The unique blend of freshman star power and mature upperclassmen was as crucial to USC's best season in decades as Watkins' immense talent. The Sierra Canyon product will continue to be the face of USC's resurgence as the Trojans enter the nation's No. 1 freshman class next year, but the six seniors who anchored Watkins won't be forgotten either.
“They completely changed the narrative about the program,” coach Lindsey Gottlieb said. “That's really powerful. The way USC women's basketball is viewed in America is much different than it was four months ago. … I think their legacy is that they took us somewhere. It's up to all of us to say, “What's next?”

angels
On Tuesday, the Marlins got off to their worst start in franchise history as Tyler Anderson pitched seven scoreless innings, Aaron Hicks hit a home run, and the Angels beat Miami 3-1.
Anderson (1-0) had four hits, two walks and five strikeouts. The left-hander pitched with 83 pitches.
In the fourth, Hicks' solo shot put the Angels ahead 1-0. He hit a fastball from Miami starter Jesus Luzardo into the right foul pole and hit the team's first home run.

From Jeff Miller: The Chargers are still more than five months away from playing their first game of the Jim Harbaugh era.
But where the team was headed was crystal clear in the first meeting on the first day of the first phase of Harbaugh's first offseason program.
“We're going to work on being physical,” new tight end Hayden Hurst said. “We'll be at your place soon. You can see us showing up on the schedule, but it's going to be a long Sunday.”

From Kevin Baxter: If the U.S. makes a breakthrough at the next World Cup, or even this summer's Copa America, Italy might deserve some of the credit.
A record 10 Americans have played in Italy since 2022. Six of those players were on the 23-man roster for last week's CONCACAF Nations League finals. Five of the 20 teams in Italy's top league, Serie A, have American owners.
For league chief executive Luigi De Siervo, it's a win-win.
“That's no coincidence,” he said. “Italian clubs are closely following developments in U.S. soccer.”

Alex Killorn scored twice, Troy Terry had one goal and two assists, and the Ducks ended their losing streak at five with a 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.
Killorn, who has scored 17 goals this season, said, “I'm happy to win.'' “We haven't done anything like that in a long time. It's been tough. It's nice to go home feeling good, especially at the end of a road trip.”
Mason McTavish and Cam Fowler scored for the Ducks, and rookie defenseman Oren Zellweger had three assists in his first multi-point game.
