New York City – The pages of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue feature many legends. To celebrate our 60th anniversary, many legends have come together to grace the cover of this special occasion.
“I feel like this cover in particular is a celebration of femininity and empowerment, and I'm so honored to be a part of that,” Lily Aldridge told On the Red Carpet at the launch party in New York City. Ta.
Molly Sims said: “It's so great to be able to come together and celebrate different milestones in our lives. It's really special.”
The magazine is releasing a solo cover and three collection covers featuring SI legends.
On the red carpet, fashion expert Roshumba Williams has worked with Sports Illustrated since 1989. Although she has appeared in the magazine many times over the years, she has never been on the cover before.
“I'm shocked, because you've been doing this for so long and you're just grateful to be a part of it. But then they say, 'No, you're one of the cover girls.' “When you spend your life being a trailblazer and opening doors and making a difference, and it finally happens, it's amazing!” Williams explained.
Inclusion is an important part of Sports Illustrated. Many of the cover models praised the magazine's editor-in-chief, MJ Day, for the beauty of diversity.
“When I was a part of it, it was a breakthrough in diversity where I was the first Black woman, and I think we have to remember that that was a big deal at the time,” Tyra Banks said. “I think Sports Illustrated was doing it before it was popular.”
Hunter McGrady added, “Listen, if you can see it, you can be it. Sports Illustrated Editor-in-Chief MJ is doing something right.”
