new york – Thunderstorms and tornadoes are also possible Monday's forecast As people headed home around the tri-state area, Memorial Day Weekend Trip.
A severe thunderstorm watch for much of the area ended at 9 p.m., but the CBS New York First Alert weather team is extending a red warning for possible severe storms and flash flooding through the night.
Strong storms in Pennsylvania have triggered tornado warnings and could reach as far as New Jersey. The storms are expected to weaken once they reach our area, but we will be monitoring them closely.

Today's weather: thunderstorms, possible tornadoes
The day started out cloudy with some heavy fog along the coast, while showers and thunderstorms continued to accompany areas northeast of the city, and rain also fell across southern New Jersey.
Meanwhile, the clouds to the west were thinning, only fueling a second storm in the afternoon. By then, there had been a lull, but showers and storms could still develop at any time (this is called frontal convection).
After about 1pm, more storms developed in western Pennsylvania. The time of concern moved a little earlier than over the weekend, from west to east, from around 2pm to 9pm (2pm in western New Jersey, 9pm in the eastern end).
The main concerns are heavy rain and strong winds, but isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
