Metroid's Samus Aran missed out on appearing in Fortnite because Nintendo wanted the character to be available only in the Switch version of the game.
That's according to former Epic Games chief creative officer Donald Mustard, who spoke about the evolution of the company's Metaverse project in a recent interview with Game File.
Kratos from Sony's God of War series and Master Chief from Microsoft's Halo series joined Fortnite in December 2020 as part of the Gaming Legends Series in Chapter 2: Season 5.
Court documents issued the following year as part of a legal battle between Epic and Apple revealed that the Fortnite maker also wanted to introduce a skin based on Metroid's mascot, Samus. It has not been confirmed until now why this did not happen.
Mustard said Nintendo turned down Epic's offer to feature the character in the game.
“They were very particular about their characters appearing on platforms that weren't theirs,” he says.
“They would be thrilled to see a Nintendo character in Fortnite, but only if it was on their own platform.”
Mustard said Epic would not agree to the terms.
“For me and for Epic as a whole, it's like, 'This is absolutely necessary.' We want to make sure Fortnite is the same experience no matter what screen or device you're playing on.” ”
Earlier today, it was announced that singer-songwriter Billie Eilish will be coming to Fortnite.
Confirmation that Eilish will be joining the music experience Fortnite Festival on April 23rd comes just days after Eilish's appearance in the game was included in a leaked purported 2024 content roadmap image. It arrived later.
If true, Fortnite Battle Royale's Apocalyptic (Mad Max?) and Marvel seasons could arrive in the fourth quarter of this year ahead of another OG season and the start of Chapter 6.
The roadmap suggests that Eilish, Metallica and Snoop Dogg could be among the featured artists at the upcoming Fortnite festival.
