ARLINGTON — Pitcher Sam Garcia allowed just three hits and no runs over eight scoreless innings to lead second-seeded Oklahoma State to a 4-0 victory over 10th-seeded Texas Tech on Friday night and advance to a matchup with UCF in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament.
The winner of the game between Oklahoma State (38-17) and No. 8 seed UCF will face top-seeded Oklahoma State in Saturday's final. UCF beat the Cowboys 7-6 on Thursday in a round of 10 game.
Garcia retired 12 straight batters at one point after giving up a two-out single to Austin Green in the bottom of the second inning. Garcia's scoring ended in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-out double by Damien Bravo, but he got out of trouble by striking out Kevin Bazzell.
Oklahoma State took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the third inning when Lane Forsythe reached base on a single and scored on Collin Ritchie's double.
The Cowboys took a 2-0 lead in the seventh inning with an RBI single by Forsythe, and then extended their lead further in the eighth inning with a two-out, two-run homer by Nolan Shubert.
Garcia (7-3) struck out eight and walked none. Robert Krantz pitched a perfect ninth inning.
Trendan Parrish (2-2) of Texas Tech (33-26) was the losing pitcher, giving up five hits, two walks and two runs in six innings of work.
