The long-awaited snowstorm arrived today, and everything is going well, both in timing and in the amount of snow expected.
Light snow showers are possible on and off this morning, staying primarily south of the Iron Range. This is a fluffy type of snow, but the increased moisture coming up from the Gulf of Mexico will turn it into a wet, heavy type of snow by the evening.
By late afternoon the snow will be widespread and roads could start to become slippery by 3 p.m. The heaviest snow is expected tonight into early Monday morning.
Areas in northwestern Wisconsin are expected to receive up to 100 centimeters of snow by noon Monday, with the precipitation type expected to change to rain in those areas. Minnesota will see snow for most of Monday, with a chance of a mix of cold rain Monday afternoon.
The snow will gradually become lighter before the system ends Tuesday evening. Most of the Northland region and the Twin Cities could eventually see more than a foot of snow.
