Ththe last of us, 2 required,Furthermore Bluey Video games have arrived at Philadelphia libraries, along with a catalog of more than 100 games for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and X, and Nintendo Switch.
The Free Library of Philadelphia has added video games to its list of items available for loan. Children, youth and adults may rent up to three games for three weeks.
For Kelly Richards, the library's director and curator, video games provide “unique opportunities for learning and social interaction by fostering creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.”
According to the Pew Research Center, gaming is especially popular among teens, with 8 in 10 reporting that they have or have access to a gaming console at home.
“Young people who play video games are more likely to read materials related to the games they enjoy,” says Chris Lenglet, chief selector of the Philadelphia Library's video game collection. “We hope that by offering video games that local residents can borrow, people will become interested in related books and become patrons of the library.”
Gamers and enthusiasts can currently reserve a copy of the game at freelibrary.org/videogames, but they will need a library card to do so. (Application for a library card is free and can be done online or in person.)
The library's site's game catalog shows each game's availability and location, language options, and console compatibility.
