The developer of the long-awaited “horror” video game set on a North Sea oil rig has announced its release date.
Brighton-based developer The Chinese Room's latest game, Still Wakes the Deep, is based on the fictional disaster of the Beira D oil rig located off the coast of Scotland.
Set in December 1975, players must pilot a collapsing rig and save its crew from supernatural “otherworldly horrors on the edge of all logic and reality.”
Gamers take control of an offshore oil rig as they fight for their lives through violent storms, dangerous environments, and the dark, icy waters of the North Sea.
Your objective is to search for the crew and help them survive by running, climbing, and swimming through flooded hallways and storm-stricken outer decks.
In the trailer, which reveals a June 18th release date, new footage from the game includes an eerie voiceover of a woman speaking to a person named “Caz.”
“I still can't believe you left,” a woman's voice is heard amidst the eerie sight of an abandoned oil rig.
“What were you thinking when you went there?
“I wish I hadn't gotten into this mess, but I did. And you can keep running forever.”

The Chinese Room is an award-winning indie game development studio that has developed several narrative titles, including the critically acclaimed 2015 game. everyone went away in joy.
The description for Still Wakes The Deep on the Steam website describes the game as “an immersive disaster story starring a cast of authentic Scottish actors and set on a stunningly realized North Sea oil rig.” .

Still Wakes the Deep will be released on June 18, 2024, and will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
