Denver International Airport officials say they expect crowds at the airport as passengers prepare for travel and book tickets for Memorial Day weekend.
DIA spokesperson Michael Konopasek discussed Memorial Day travel with CBS News Colorado transportation reporter Brian Sherrod. Konopasek said that from Thursday, May 23rd he expected about 450,000 travelers by Monday, May 27th. This will be a record traffic increase by 9% compared to 2023.
Officials expect more than 80,000 tourists to visit on Thursday and Friday alone.
“You know the weekend is coming up,” Konopasek said. “You might have a day off on Friday and be able to leave on Thursday. Over the past few years, we've seen people's work schedules become more flexible and travel periods become a little longer. .”
