With a 27-2 record and wins over top teams in the Southern Section, Granada Hills is the clear favorite to win the City Section Open Division Softball Championship. The top-seeded Highlanders will continue to win each game.
They opened the playoffs with an 11-0, fifth-inning called-rule win over Venice on Wednesday.
Joselyn Jimenez went 3-for-3. Annabella Ramirez had a home run and two RBIs. Pitcher Addison Moorman had 12 strikeouts and allowed three hits in five innings.
Granada Hills will advance to the semifinals on May 14th, hosting West Valley League rival El Camino Real. World No. 2 Birmingham will face defending champion Carson in the other semifinal.
El Camino Real 7, San Pedro 1: Sara Delgado led the Royals to the Open District semifinals, recording six strikeouts and no walks. Remy Glassman had two RBIs, and Taryn Macias and Senia Gutierrez each had two hits.
Carson 11, Chavez 1: Leadoff batter Ashanalee Titiari'i went 4-for-4 with 2 RBIs, Ruby Grajeda and Alana Langford each had 3 hits, and Liana Maulupe hit a home run as the defending champion Colts won a 6th inning called rule victory. They advanced to the open district semifinals.
Birmingham 11, Banning 8: Rebecca Lozano hit a home run, had three hits and three RBIs, and also snatched the Patriots' pitching victory.

Bell 4, Garfield 2: The Eagles are likely to win the Eastern League and earn a spot in the City Section Open Division playoffs. Jayden Rojas pitched a complete game, striking out seven and allowing two hits. David Gonzalez had two hits for Bell.
