Ohio Northern University's Dicke School of Business opened its newest high-impact learning space, the Haushalter Finance Lab, on May 17, 2024. Named in memory of donors David Haushalter (BSBA '92) and his Nikki (Bennett) Haushalter (BSPh '92, PharmD). In '97, the lab was designed to simulate a trading room.
The facility includes a video wall, 16 computer workstations, Solstice pods that allow users in the room to connect to monitors throughout the space, and two stock tickers (one in the classroom and one in the lab located in the university lobby). one on the outside). This space supports the university's finance program, its fastest growing major, and other computer-based coursework such as data analysis.
According to ONU Assistant Professor of Finance Dr. Maneesh Shukla, the lab has enhanced his teaching and classroom experience.
“We are extremely grateful for the support of Houseshalters and their investment in our laboratory,” he said. “Thanks to technology, we can make lessons more engaging and exciting. Through stock tickers, students can visually experience the reactions of various macroeconomic events to the stock market, and in real time. We offer a variety of in-class exercises, including investment simulation games to help you make investment decisions.”
The Haushalters met as students at Ohio Northern University and were married in the university's English Chapel. Nikki earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree in 1992 and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1997 at ONU. Meanwhile, David graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting in 1992.
“The relationships I build with ONU faculty will last a lifetime,” David said. “He is one of the things that makes ONU so unique and special.”
“We are so excited to be able to give back and provide the education and opportunities we received to the next generation of students,” Nikki added.
Nikki has worked as a pharmacist, pharmacy instructor, and full-time mother to the couple's two children. David is Chairman of the Board and Vice President of Sales for Robinson Fin Machines in Kenton. The company manufactures and sells highly engineered products in markets such as aerospace, automotive, medical, energy, and industrial. He works with people around the world on projects ranging from submarines to space stations to manned missions to the moon and Mars.
