Headquartered in the United States and with operations in France, Ossergy is pioneering a hyperlocal supply chain approach that works with local manufacturers to create green jobs in the areas where its turbines are installed.
Ocergy's lightweight, modular design makes the turbine foundations easy to transport and assemble at the final destination, providing additional efficiency.
The green technology disruptor is already working with more than a dozen leading developers across multi-gigawatt (GW) projects, with the first foundations expected to be in place by 2025/26.
“As technology and innovation accelerate the energy revolution globally, we are constantly developing innovative solutions that accelerate progress,” said Zoysa Northbond, CEO of Octopus Energy Generation. I'm looking into it,” he said. “Ocergy’s breakthrough approach has the power to reduce the cost of floating offshore wind, and our investment will help us get there faster and help create cleaner, greener energy systems around the world. The way will be opened.”
Octopus' investment will help commercialize Osergy's technology and facilitate the company's rapid expansion into new markets. It will also enable the expansion of state-of-the-art environmental data and biodiversity monitoring systems.
The investment comes on behalf of Vector, Octopus Energy's offshore wind fund, which was launched late last year. This is the latest milestone in the company's plans to accelerate the deployment of offshore wind power around the world to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and strengthen energy security.
Floating foundations are used in areas with coastlines that are too deep for foundations fixed to the seabed. Approximately 80% of the world's offshore wind energy resources are located in deep sea, highlighting the huge untapped potential of this technology.
This comes as governments around the world set ambitious goals for floating offshore wind. The UK alone is targeting 5GW of floating offshore wind capacity by 2030.
“At Ocergy, we are very enthusiastic about this collaboration with Octopus Energy Generation,” added Dominique Roddier, CEO of Ocergy. “This will enable us to expand our business and focus on delivering both pre-commercial and large-scale floating offshore wind projects. Octopus’ advanced work in offshore wind and Ossergy’s We expect there to be many synergies between our achievements to date, which will significantly increase the profitability of our projects.”
