This article was updated at 8am BST to correctly state that Nintendo's last acquisition was Dynamo Pictures, not Next Level Games.
Nintendo plans to fully acquire Miami-based Shiver Entertainment, which is responsible for several high-profile Nintendo Switch ports.
Nintendo announced on Monday that it has entered into an agreement with Shiver's current owner, Embracer Group AB, to acquire 100% of the company's outstanding shares and make it a wholly owned subsidiary.
Since its establishment in 2012, Shiver has been involved in the porting and development of games such as “Hogwarts Legacy'' and “Mortal Kombat 1'' to the Nintendo Switch.
“By welcoming Shiver's experienced and talented development team, Nintendo aims to secure advanced resources for the porting and development of software titles,” the company said in a statement.
“Going forward, even after becoming part of the Nintendo Group, Shiver's focus will remain the same and we will continue to port and commission software development for multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch.”
This acquisition will be Nintendo's first since its acquisitions of Dynamo Pictures (now Nintendo Pictures) and SRD in 2022.
The company's last acquisitions before that were Next Level Games in 2021 and Monolith Soft (Xenoblade) in 2007.
Shiver joins Next Level, developer of Luigi's Mansion 3, and Retro Studio, developer of Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, to Nintendo's roster of North American studios.
