TOKYO, May 21 (EFE) – Japanese video game company Nintendo on Tuesday announced the acquisition of American company Shiver Entertainment, creators of titles such as “Hogwarts Legacy'' and the remake of “Mortal Kombat 1'' on the Switch console. Announced.
Shiver Entertainment, founded in 2012 and currently a subsidiary of Nintendo, is a video game development company. We've partnered with publishers and other developers to create large-scale titles and adapt video games to multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch.
“By bringing on Shiver's experienced and talented development team, Nintendo aims to secure advanced resources for the porting and development of software titles,” the company said in a statement. “Going forward, even after becoming part of the Nintendo Group, Shiver's focus remains the same and we will continue to port and commission software development for multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch.”
The development and sales company, based in Kyoto, western Japan, did not disclose when the acquisition would be completed or the operating amount.
Nintendo hasn't acquired a studio since 2021 when it bought Canada's Next Level Games, which is responsible for the Japanese conglomerate's franchises such as “Super Mario Strikers” and “Luigi's Mansion.”
Shiver Entertainment is the company that ported Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1 to the oldest and weakest platform of this generation, the Switch console, but this last title was poorly received due to a drop in quality. It wasn't.
Nintendo stock rose 0.24% during the mid-trading break on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Tuesday following the announcement of the acquisition deal. EFE
