“This creature does not want to show itself, it hides in its lies. It will fight if necessary, but in the open it is defenseless. If it controls us, there will be no enemies, no one to kill it. And that will be a victory.”
During IGN Live on Friday, Nightdive Studios, the studio behind the System Shock and Star Wars Dark Forces remasters, announced that their next project is a remaster of the 2002 squad-based horror shooter, The Thing. The game acts as a sequel of sorts to John Carpenter's The Thing, with players arriving at Outpost 31 to investigate strange events that have taken place after the events of the film.
You can watch the reveal trailer below:
According to Nightdive Studios, the official synopsis for The Thing: Remastered reads: “The real horror begins where the film ends. You are Captain J.F. Blake, leader of a US Special Forces rescue team sent to investigate the blood-curdling events and mysterious deaths of a team of American scientists at Outpost 31 research facility in the frozen wilderness of Antarctica. In this hostile environment, your team encounters a strange, shape-shifting alien lifeform that takes the form of the humans it kills. Trapped in your natural environment and infected by this terrifying entity, it's imperative that you utilize every member of your team to not only achieve your objective, but to survive – if only you knew who was still human…”
The game is scheduled for a digital release on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch in late 2024. For more information on The Thing: Remastered, stay tuned to Horror News Network.
