Kenneth Petty has been granted permission to travel overseas to support his wife Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday World Tour, which is currently on probation for failing to register as a sex offender.
On Tuesday, April 16, U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald granted Petty, 46, permission to travel abroad from April 17 to July 14, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.
”[Petty] You shall keep your probation officer updated with details of your travel itinerary, as appropriate. At the end of the journey, [Petty] “You must return to Los Angeles and upon your return, you must check with your probation officer,” the filing states. Petty must also submit an itinerary to his probation officer before traveling and follow all instructions from his probation officer. ”
“The court's order speaks for itself,” Petty's attorney Michael Goldstein told PEOPLE in a statement.

Petty applied for the exception on Monday, April 15, saying it was to “travel out of the country with his family for his wife's tour and professional purposes.”

The filing also said the government had been informed of the request but “did not take any position” and that the probation officer had “no objections.”

Petty's request to travel abroad comes after years of legal troubles. In April 1995, she was found guilty of attempted first-degree rape for assaulting a then-16-year-old girl the previous year.
He served four years in prison for assault and was registered as a Level 2 sex offender in New York State.
He was then arrested again in March 2020 for failing to register as a sex offender when moving from Miami to California. He initially pleaded guilty and posted $100,000 bail, according to records obtained by PEOPLE. And in September 2021, he pleaded guilty in a virtual hearing, facing up to 10 years in prison.

Rumors of marriage to Petty first surfaced in March 2019, and Minaj confirmed they were married in an Instagram post in October of the same year. “Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty 10*21*19,” she captioned a video of her “groom” and “groom” keepsakes, also revealing that she hyphenated her own last name.
