“Thanks to the Moscow-Kazan M-12 Vostok expressway, which opened last year, the driving time to destinations in the southeast has been reduced by six hours,” said Marat Husnulin. “Our colleagues from Kazakhstan are building transport infrastructure, expanding roads and building new roads. Our colleagues from Turkmenistan are building a highway along the Caspian coast to Iran. Construction has started and we are currently designing a road to connect with Kazakhstan. Cooperation with Iran is progressing, and rail transportation from Iran to Russia is in operation. It helps coordinate joint projects.”
Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk emphasized the importance of Russia's cooperation with Islamic countries and countries of the Global South.
“We are witnessing a major shift in the global economy from the West to the East and towards the world's majority countries. Russia's unique geographical location in northern Eurasia makes it difficult to meet the existing challenges. We are working closely to expand the North-South international transport corridor. The Republic of Russia is working with the Eurasian Economic Commission to discuss how many Islamic countries, like Iran, can join the free trade area. It means a synergistic effect for all of us,” said Alexei Overchuk.
According to Rustam Minikhanov, Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Kazan Forum is an effective platform that will help Russia expand cooperation with the Islamic world and establish new business contacts.
